Registration will open 30 minutes before the audition start time.
Audition order will be based on the sign in sheet. Those who arrive early and sign in first will be called first.
Each student will undergo a group dance audition and a private vocal audition.
Crew members are selected through the audition process, so if a student is interested in being considered for crew, he/she must go through the entire audition process.
While not required, the directors do suggest that you familiarize yourself with the show before auditioning.
To start, ALL students will go through a 30 minute group dance audition. Arrive on time and dress comfortably for movement. The entire group will be taught a simple routine, that they will then perform in small groups. Prior dance experience is not necessary.
After the group dance audition, students will be called in for a private vocal audition. Order will be determined by the sign in sheet.
Students should prepare a song (16-32 bars) that reflects the style of the show and showcases their vocal ability. (Singing a song from Bye Bye Birdie is acceptable.)
Students should memorize their song and sing it with piano accompaniment or a track that contains no vocals. (A piano accompanist and Boombox with CD player and auxiliary input will be provided.)
Singing a cappella is acceptable if the student feels that he/she can sing confidently and on pitch. However, singing with accompaniment is preferred.
At the audition, students will be taught a short selection from Bye Bye Birdiethat they will be asked to sing in addition to their prepared piece.
Students may also be asked to do a cold reading from the script.
If a call back is necessary, it will be held Sunday, May 20 at 1p.
The call back list will be posted on the website no later than 9p on Saturday, May 19.
A call back does NOT guarantee casting.
The cast list will be posted on the website no later than 9p on Wednesday, May 23.
Due to limitations in cast & crew size and expected audition turnout, not every student will be cast in the show or involved as a crew member.
Rehearsals begin June 2. Most rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9a-1p. See the CONFLICT CALENDAR for specific days and times.
Bye Bye Birdie will be performed on July 27 @ 7p, July 28 @ 2p, & August 2-3-4 @ 7p.
Cast members are expected to pay a $150 participation fee, payable at the Parent Meeting on May 31.
Crew members are expected to pay a $50 participation fee, payable at the Parent Meeting on May 31.
See the CYT POLICIES form for additional information about the fee.
If cost is a concern that would prevent a student from participating, please contact the director to discuss alternatives and scholarship opportunities.
CYT desires to include as many students as possible in its productions, however each production has a limited cast and crew size. As interest in CYT continues to grow, the integrity of the program requires that we cast the strongest talent available. Participation in CYT classes or camps does NOT mean a student will be cast in a CYT main stage production. Likewise, prior participation in a CYT production does NOT guarantee a role in the cast or crew.
